Due to the current weather conditions, PVTU has rescheduled our 2026 Winter Salt Snapshot collection date to February 13!
Per David Bressler of Stroud:
Hello Salt Snapshot participants,
Because of severe cold, dangerous ice and snow cover, and related logistical obstacles that make it difficult to safely collect water samples, the Stroud Center recommends that snapshot participants delay stream sampling until conditions improve. Many small streams across our region are frozen with icy banks. Parking on side roads is also difficult in many areas.
If your group has already collected samples, please proceed with analysis and data entry in the online data sheet, which is linked to the live online map.
Please note that we will continue to accept data for at least the next several weeks to allow groups to sample based on their own situations and needs.
For your reference, here is the updated Winter Salt Snapshot 2026 event page, the guidance document, and the resources folder.
Keep an eye out for additional updates and recommendations, but please feel free to be in touch if you need clarification or if you’d like to discuss anything.
Thank you!
David Bressler
